250,000 homes could be built above London’s railways

03 November 2017

A new report suggests that building over railway lines could be the answer to London’s housing shortage. Compared to building major infrastructure projects, rail overbuild could be a quicker and less costly way to unlock large housing schemes.

The London boroughs of Brent, Ealing and Croydon and TfL Zones 2, 3 and 4 provided the most ‘overbuild’ development potential, the report says. Rail overbuild could also help connect communities divided by the tracks, it suggests.
